How to Install RedSnake nEXTgen Bottom Metal

FAQs

What magazines are compatible with RedSnake nEXTgen AICS bottom metal?

Both our Long Action Hunter and Long Action Tactical models of our Tikka bottom metal are compatible with 3.715" AICS-pattern magazines. We recommend metal magazines such as MDT and Accurate Mag as opposed to polymer magazines.

Our Short Action Hunter and Short Action Tactical bottom metal utilizes 3.055" AICS magazines. The short action models are also compatible with flush fit magazines from Hawkins Precision and the flush fit polymer magazine from MDT.

Our parts are not compatible with the 3.560" length magazines or CIP 3.850" magazines.

Is RedSnake nEXTgen AICS Bottom Metal compatible with factory Tikka T3x stocks?

Both of our long action and short action nEXTgen AICS Bottom Metal are designed to fit in the OEM/factory stock or aftermarket stocks that are inletted for the factory bottom metal. Please note, some minor modification of your factory stock is necessary (see installation instructions).

What aftermarket rifle stocks are compatible with the RedSnake nEXTgen AICS Bottom Metal?

McMillan Stocks currently offers a dedicated inlet option for the RedSnake nEXTgen AICS Bottom Metal on select stock models. When ordering a compatible McMillan stock, simply select the RedSnake NextGen AICS inlet option during configuration.

Additional stock manufacturers may offer compatibility through custom inletting, gunsmith installation, or future inlet programs. Because stock offerings and inlet availability can change over time, we recommend contacting us if you have questions about a specific stock manufacturer or rifle configuration.

The RedSnake nEXTgen AICS Bottom Metal is designed around the Tikka T3/T3x platform and has been validated across multiple stock and magazine configurations as part of the broader RedSnake AICS System.

Do I need additional gunsmithing to install a McMillan stock with the RedSnake nEXTgen AICS inlet?

No. McMillan's dedicated RedSnake nEXTgen AICS inlet is designed to accept the RedSnake bottom metal without additional bottom metal inletting. As with any aftermarket stock and bottom metal combination, minor fitting may occasionally be required due to normal manufacturing tolerances.

Will my stock need to be modified for the bottom metal to fit?

Depending on the model you choose, some modification of your stock will be necessary. Our nEXTgen AICS Bottom Metal is designed to fit in the OEM/factory stock and aftermarket stocks that are inletted for the factory T3x bottom metal. Please note, some minor modification of your factory stock is necessary (see installation instructions).

My stock has already been inletted for another bottom metal -- will the nEXTgen Bottom Metal fit?

In many cases, yes.

The RedSnake nEXTgen AICS Bottom Metal is designed around the factory Tikka T3/T3x inlet geometry. If your stock is currently configured with a bottom metal that utilizes the factory Tikka inlet footprint, the RedSnake nEXTgen AICS Bottom Metal will often install directly or require only minor fitting.

Because aftermarket bottom metal manufacturers may use slightly different exterior dimensions, corner radii, trigger guard profiles, and magazine well geometry, some stocks may require minor modification to achieve an optimal fit.

If fitting is required, a competent gunsmith can typically make the necessary adjustments quickly and cleanly. As with any aftermarket stock and bottom metal combination, minor fitting may be required due to normal manufacturing tolerances and differences between component manufacturers.

If you are unsure whether your current stock or bottom metal configuration is compatible, please contact us with the stock manufacturer and bottom metal currently installed, and we will be happy to help evaluate your specific setup.

Do you offer a short action bottom metal?

Yes.

RedSnake currently offers both Short Action Hunter and Short Action Tactical versions of our nEXTgen AICS Bottom Metal for the Tikka T3 and T3x platform.

Both models are designed around AICS-pattern magazines and incorporate our proprietary nEXTgen magazine positioning geometry to support reliable feeding and improved cartridge overall length utilization compared to traditional Tikka magazine systems.

The Short Action Hunter features a low-profile, field-oriented design with a recessed magazine release, while the Short Action Tactical incorporates an extended release lever for rapid magazine changes and competition-oriented use.

For additional information, compatibility details, and current availability, visit our Short Action product pages.

What is RedSnake's Return / Refund Policy?

We have a 100% satisfaction guarantee.  If you are not pleased with your nEXTgen bottom metal for any reason, you may return it for a full refund. Please note, RedSnake Tactical/RedSnake Enterprises is NOT responsible for any changes to your stock or magazines and will not refund or reimburse customers for changes or damage to your stock or magazines if modified to fit our bottom metal.

Troubleshooting

Here is some additional info you may find helpful

Bottom metal is too wide and wont fit in stock?

Due to variances in the tolerances of the stock fabrication process, the bottom metal inlet may not be wide enough to accommodate our bottom metal. Using a flat file, rotary tool, or emory cloth, incrementally widen the width of the opening on the bottom of the stock until the nEXTgen bottom metal drops in.

Bolt wont pick up a cartridge when cycling action?

Tikka's actions load rounds by a push feed mechanism where the bolt contacts the case head and pushes the cartridge forward. This usually indicates that the magazine is sitting too low for the bolt to contact the case head. First, try widening the feed lips on the magazine so that the cartridge sits higher. If the bolt still will not engage the cartridge, we recommend having a gunsmith evaluate the fit and make modifications as necessary (usually deepening the inlet or shortening the pillars so that the nEXTgen bottom metal sits closer to the action).

NOTE: We recommend using AICS magazines with metal feed lips.  Polymer magazines do not feed reliably in Tikka rifles due to the geometry of the magazine feed lips which cause the cartridge to sit too low to be picked up by the bolt and/or can impede bolt closure.

Cartridge is hitting the bottom of the action's feed ramp?

Our nEXTgen Long Action Bottom Metal is designed to allow cartridges with an OAL of 3.500" to feed from the magazine. First, ensure that the cartridge is pushed back against the rear of the magazine. You may also need to adjust the width of the feed lips on your magazine so that that the cartridge assumes a "nose-up" orientation to clear the feed ramp on the action.

Magazine won't latch?

Push upwards firmly on the bottom of the magazine.  If your magazine will still not fully engage the lever, we recommend having a gunsmith evaluate the fit and make modifications to the lever length as necessary.

For the mechanically-inclined, this can be accomplished by using a 3/32 spring pin punch to remove the spring pin from the lever housing. Incrementally shorten the lever from the top using a flat file or grinding wheel.

If you screw it up, don't worry. We have extra levers we can send you.
